I decided that to make the piece more interesting it needed to be scaled up. The seed core is nearly complete, however, the change in scale forced me to change my method for creating the tendrils.
At first, I found that by wetting the cardboard I could easily remove the top ply of my cardboard strip. I then created a rib to be inserted and glued in between the accordion-like middle ply and outer play. Unfortunately, I found that in wetting the cardboard all ply's separated easily, not just the one I wanted...this would have been a messy and time-consuming process to continue, so I reworked it. I decided to leave my next cardboard strip intact, place the ribbing on top of it, and then cover it with strips cut from the paper roll Bill provided.
The core was made of multiple strips glued together, capped off with another sheet that had been cut, wet and folded to fit. I also scraped edges and surfaces to emulate details from my object.
